The United States City Average Consumer Price Index (CPI) for August 2006 was 203.9 - representing an increase of 3.8 percent over the index for August 2005.
The New York-Northern New Jersey Area Consumer Price Index for August 2006 was 224.1 — representing an increase of 4.7 percent over the index for August 2005.
The September CPI will be available October 18, 2006.
Future projections of the CPI by businesses and economic organizations are found on page 3. CPI increases are projected at 3.6percent for 2006 and 2.7 percent in 2007.
