The United States City Average Consumer Price Index (CPI) for August 2008 was 219.086 —representing an increase of 5.4 percent over the index for August 2007.
The Northeast Area Consumer Price Index for August 2008 was 233.788 – representing an increase of 5.5 percent over the index for August 2007.
The New York-Northern New Jersey Area Consumer Price Index for August 2008 was 240.550 — representing an increase of 5.4 percent over the index for August 2007.
The September CPI will be available October 16, 2008.
Future projections of the CPI by businesses and economic organizations are found on page 3. CPI increases are projected at 4.4 percent for 2008 and 2.9 percent in 2009.
