All Urban Consumers

The United States City Average Consumer Price Index (CPI) for March 2009 was 212.709 — representing an increase of -0.4 percent over the index for March 2008.

The Northeast Area Consumer Price Index for March 2009 was 227.309 – representing an increase of 0.2 percent over the index for March 2008.

The New York-Northern New Jersey Area Consumer Price Index for March 2009 was 235.067 — representing an increase of 0.8 percent over the index for March 2008.

The April CPI will be available May 15, 2009.

Future projections of the CPI by businesses and economic organizations are found on page 3.CPI increases are projected at -0.7 percent for 2009 and 1.6 percent in 2010.
