Overview
The United States City Average Consumer Price Index (CPI) for May 2007 was 207.949 — representing an increase of 2.7 percent over the index for May 2006.
The New York-Northern New Jersey Area Consumer Price Index for May 2007 was 227.146 — representing an increase of 2.5 percent over the index for May 2006.
The June CPI will be available July 18, 2007.
Future projections of the CPI by businesses and economic organizations are found on page 3. CPI increases are projected at 2.5percent for 2007 and 2.5 percent in 2008.
Effective with the January 2007 release, the Bureau of Labor Statistics has begun to publish all CPI index levels to three decimal places and will calculate percent changes based on these three decimal places. As in the past, percent changes in the CPI will be rounded to one decimal place.
