Stony Brook University

The NYSUT Education & Learning Trust has partnered with the School of Professional Development at Stony Brook University to offer the University's Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) program. The MA/LS is a functionally-relevant master's degree for those teachers already holding an initial license and may be used to fulfill professional certification requirements.

NYSUT members complete six of the required 33 program credits through the NYSUT Education & Learning Trust. Trust courses are offered at various locations throughout New York or online at current Trust tuition rates. The remaining credits are completed online at the State University of New York's (SUNY) tuition rate (view tuition rates at www.stonybrook.edu/bursar).

NYSUT members must successfully complete the six credits through the Trust (minimum grade of B) prior to application for matriculation into Stony Brook's MALS program.

Upon application to the program, the matriculation fee will be waived for qualifying NYSUT members and other standard university fees may also be waived depending on student status. NYSUT members submit a completed program application and a Transfer Request Form for the Trust courses they have completed (indicate "NYSUT member" on both forms).

Current Stony Brook matriculated students are not eligible to participate in this program.
