NYSUT members can support striking Stella D'oro workers by joining a mass rally on Saturday, May 30, at noon in front of the cookie factory at 237 Street and Broadway in the Bronx. Strikers will assemble at West 225 Street, one block east of the #1 station, and march to the factory site.

For more than nine months, Stella D'oro workers have picketed daily against the Wall Street private equity firm Brynwood Partners - which is slashing wages, pensions, holidays and sick pay and operating the factory with scab labor - in an effort to break the union. The striking workers are represented by Local 50 of the Bakery, Confectionary, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union.

To participate in the May 30 rally, contact a NYSUT regional office in Tarrytown (914-592-4411), Nassau (516-496-2035) or Suffolk (631-273-8822); each office is providing transportation to the strike site. Participants are encouraged to bring banners and signs.

What you can do

NYSUT members have a role to play in this effort. Strike supporters are asking that no one buy Stella D'oro products, which are being made by strikebreakers and managers. Plummeting sales will increase pressure on the company to settle.

NYSUT locals are also encouraged to send donations to the workers' local union to help ensure they are able to make it through this struggle.

• Checks should be made out to: "BCTGM Local 50 Strike Fund"; write "Stella D'oro Strike" on the memo line.

• Send to: BCTGM Local 50, 145 Talmadge Road, Suite 17, Edison, NJ 08817.
