Organizing

In order to breathe life into the principles embodied in the NYSUT Mission Statement, NYSUT has identified five organizational frameworks intended to help guide the organization in defining and communicating who we are and what we stand for.

POLITICAL VOICE
Using the strength of our membership, giving political voice to our locals and electing our friends and supporters into office.

COMMUNICATIONS
Getting our message out first, defining for ourselves who we are.

SOCIAL JUSTICE
Defining for ourselves a social justice agenda that supports our mission.

EDUCATION
Educating the public, business community and policymakers on issues of concern to our members.

ORGANIZING
Growing the union in terms of size and the sophistication of our members, finding new and better ways to engage the members we have and to organize the unorganized.

NYSUT Mission Statement

Through a representative democratic structure, New York State United Teachers improves the professional, economic and personal lives of our members and their families, strengthens the institutions in which they work, and furthers the cause of social justice through the trade union movement.
