NYSUT flood relief efforts underway
Dear Local President:
A devastating spring storm tore across a large swath of New York in mid-April, dumping close to 10 inches of rain in some parts of the state and causing widespread flooding. Many of our NYSUT sisters and brothers in the affected area, which runs from Albany County to Long Island, suffered significant property damage as a result of the storm.
Those of you living in Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, Essex, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Schoharie, Suffolk, Ulster and Westchester counties, or who have members in those areas, may qualify for assistance from the NYSUT Disaster Relief Fund. Please distribute the application at the end of this letter to your members who may require assistance.

For our sisters and brothers from around the state who were spared the devastation, we are asking you to come to the assistance of your union family. You're encouraged to send your donations as soon as possible to the NYSUT Disaster Relief Fund. Donations may be mailed directly to the attention of Jeff Lockwood in the Accounting Department at NYSUT Headquarters or may be made online at www.nysut.org. Effective immediately, all donations to the disaster fund, a tax-deductible 501(c)3 fund, will be designated for 2007 flood relief.

I again urge those of you who are in the areas impacted by flooding to make Disaster Relief Fund applications available to your members. And, of course, donations are greatly needed and appreciated from the rest of you.
In solidarity,
Richard C. Iannuzzi
President
