The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History
The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History was founded in 1994 to promote the study and appreciation of American history. It organizes seminars and other programs for educators, produces print and electronic publications and traveling exhibits, sponsors lectures by prominent historians and helps establish history-themed schools.
The institute also administers a "History Teacher of the Year Award" in every state in partnership with Preserve America; awards the Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass and George Washington Book Prizes; and offers fellowships for scholars to work in the Gilder Lehrman Collection.
