Farfaglia elected to the TRS board

National, state and local elections were not the only ones taking place this month. In Saratoga Springs, delegates attending New York State Teachers' Retirement System's annual meeting on Nov. 9-10 unanimously elected Paul Farfaglia as the newest teacher-member on the state TRS Board. Farfaglia, president of Jordan-Elbridge Teachers Association and a longtime advocate on pension and retirement issues, was endorsed by NYSUT and ran unopposed.

Farfaglia will fill the seat currently held by Joseph McLaughlin of the Harrison Association of Teachers, whose term expires in January. McLaughlin, who has served on the board for 18 years, the past three years as board president, did not seek re-election.

The other teacher-members on the board are Sheila Salenger of Wappingers Falls Congress of Teachers and Michael Corn of New Hartford TA. Teacher members on the 10-member board are elected from the membership, one each year, by delegates to the NYSTRS annual meeting.
