Freebies: Computers available

Freebies offers opportunities for you and your students. Remember: We do not screen products for subtle or not-so-subtle plugs.

Computers available

Under its Computers for Learning program, the General Services Administration is seeking to make modern computer technology an integral part of every classroom.

Go to http://computersforlearning.gov for details on how your school could be eligible for computers and peripherals from U.S. government offices.

Funds for phones

Looking for a way to raise money for your school? The EcoPhones Recycling Fundraiser says you can earn cash by asking parents, neighbors, co-workers and local businesses to donate and recycle their used consumer electronics — cell phones, ink jet printer cartridges, laptop computers, iPods and digital cameras.

For project information, go to www.greenschoolfundraiser.org or call 888-ECOPHONE (888-326-7466).

Classics online

Weekly Reader is launching "Read Great Authors," a new online resource designed to connect this generation of media-savvy students with the classic works of Poe, Chaucer, Twain, Shakespeare and others.

Through Sept. 18, Weekly Reade is offering all New York Teacher readers free access to one part of this new feature.

Go to www.weeklyreader.com/greatauthors and click on the "Preview Poe Web site" icon.
