Union joins efforts to celebrate those in recovery
NYSUT leaders will join thousands in New York City in September to raise national awareness that addiction is a treatable disease and recovery is possible.
This year is the 20th anniversary of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.
Union leaders will walk Saturday, Sept. 12, with those in recovery and the friends and family who support them.
"As an organization we haven't done much to talk about the impact that addictions have on the people who teach," said NYSUT Secretary-Treasurer Lee Cutler. "This project celebrates sobriety and the success stories."
Cutler and Vice President Kathleen Donahue are working together to raise awareness about the recovery project.
