Honors
Among those honored at a White House ceremony after being chosen by one of the 2009 Presidential Scholars as their most influential teacher are Maggie Bouck, president of the Cherry Valley Springfield TA, and Clarissa Bushman, United Federation of Teachers. Bouck is an English teacher; Bushman teaches economics.
Since 1983, each Presidential Scholar has invited his or her most inspiring and challenging teacher to travel to Washington, D.C., to receive a teacher recognition award and participate in events.

Helen Levin, United Federation of Teachers (retired), received an award for her artwork from the LHCF Chenven Foundation for Art. A longtime abstract painter, she has had solo exhibitions of her paintings in New York and in Europe.
