Recommended by: Debra Yanulevich, school librarian, Gowanda Central Schools, Gonowanda Teachers Association

Suitable for: Grade 7

Why I chose this book: It is a popular example of a verse novel that the students enjoy reading. It is one of the most asked for books.
Besides being a great resource to teach narrative poetry, it also addresses grief and loss that resonates with readers.

How can teachers use this book: ELA Standard 2: Students will read, write, listen and speak for literary response and expression. It is great for verse novel/narrative poetry unit in ELA.

The author's Web site is at www.lisaschroederbooks.com.

What I like best: The exploration of how it feels in everyday matters while experiencing the death of a loved one is well done. Writing in verse that teens can relate to is an impressive feat.

Check It Out features books recommended to teachers and parents by school librarians.
