Jack Axelrod

Retired United Federation of Teachers member Jack Axelrod died Feb. 10. Jack grew up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, then moved to Brighton Beach. He taught homebound students, mainly in Coney Island and Brooklyn, until his retirement in 1991.

Jack enjoyed political discussions, movies and music. He had an extensive video and record collection. He was a kind and caring friend.

Jack is survived by his two sons and two grandchildren.

Anthony Marciano

Anthony (Tony) Marciano, a former officer of the Greece Teachers Association, died Dec.14. Tony taught eighth-grade English at both Britton Road and Athena junior highs.

He stressed the importance of the English language, reading and opened minds and hearts to poetry in his class.

Tony served GTA during contract negotiations, as a building representative, treasurer, and vice president.

He also served as a delegate to NYSTA, NYSUT, AFT, NEA, NYEA, and NEA/NY as well as a retiree district director.

Tony taught English to Russian immigrants, citizenship classes, and Russian to youngsters.

Survivors include two children, Susan and John; a grandson, Lucas; and Fran, the mother of his children.

Nancy Ann Snyder

Nancy Ann Snyder, a member of the Medina Teachers Association, died Jan. 14. Nancy was a business teacher and most recently the district's technology coordinator.

She worked with the students as a cheerleading adviser and as an instructor to the Medina Mustang Marching Band Twirlers and Colorguard.

Nancy's energy, work ethic, and great smile will be missed by her colleagues at Medina. She is survived by her husband, Karl; and sons Kevin and Kristian.
