ELT instructor Matt Loomis, a Rochester TA member, knows how to keep a lot of balls in the air.

Teachers looking to complete master's degrees can now save tuition dollars, thanks to a new partnership agreement between NYSUT's Education & Learning Trust and Mercy College.

NYSUT's professional development arm has reached an agreement that provides discounts on master's degrees from Mercy College campuses in the Bronx, Dobbs Ferry, Manhattan, White Plains and Yorktown.

First, NYSUT members can take 15 credits through ELT for $595 per three-credit course - less than $200 per credit. Those credits are then applied to one of Mercy's graduate programs, and NYSUT members will receive a one-third discount on Mercy tuition.

Teachers can pursue a master's degree in Childhood Education Grades 1-6, Middle Childhood Education Grades 5-9, Adolescence Education Grades 7-12, or Teaching Literacy.

The programs are designed for NYSUT members who hold a valid teaching certificate and need a master's degree to fulfill professional (or permanent) certification requirements.
