NYSUT members are 'making strides' against breast cancer

These are a few of the thousands of walkers from NYSUT locals who participated in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks statewide to raise funds to support breast cancer research.


NYSUT President Dick Iannuzzi (last row, center) and Sheila Goldberg (far right), a Plainedge retiree who helps coordinate the Nassau County walk, join the Mineola local, whose members and retirees raised $11,700 to fight breast cancer.

Harrison Association of Teachers had a large contingent at the Manhattanville walk. President Karen Magee noted HAT has participated in the walks since their inception.

Among the scores of walkers raising awareness and funds for the Oct. 15 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks were hundreds of United Federation of Teachers members. Shown above are the UFTers who walked for a cure in Prospect Park in Brooklyn.



A large contingent of members and kids joined the Queens walk that started at Queens Borough Hall.


UFT survivors of breast cancer led the Manhattan walk that wound through Central Park.

Educating educators about cancer

A one-day conference for educating educators about medical and learning issues that children with cancer face, particularly when returning to school, is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at SUNY Stony Brook. It is organized by the School Re-Entry Program at Stony Brook University Medical Center.
