SRPs: For all you do, Nov. 15 is for you

For the fourth year in a row, School-Related Professionals have gotten an official day of their own, via a resolution from the state Legislature. NYSUT, which supported the measure, provided locals with SRP recognition kits, including stickers to be worn on the day, and a public service radio announcement in which NYSUT President Dick Iannuzzi stressed how vital SRPs are to a child's education.
"More than 80,000 SRP members are working in school districts and higher education settings across New York state, transporting students; keeping buildings safe, clean and well-maintained; operating offices; serving nutritious meals and providing quality instructional assistance and medical care," NYSUT Vice President Kathleen Donahue said at a recognition dinner sponsored by NYSUT's Elmsford Regional Office.
Across the state, many local unions sponsored breakfasts, lunches and other celebrations to honor those who make education work.
