Members of NYSUT now have access to specialized health information from the American Cancer Society with just a click of the mouse.

Because the statewide union is a partner of ACS in the annual "Making Strides" walks in October, members can use a special site at www.fightcancer.org to get tips on dealing with a variety of health issues. Once on the site, simply type in "NYSUT" in the login space in order to come directly to the partner site.

Information is available on getting fit, skin care, quitting smoking, and recipes for healthy eating. There are also information keys on how to get involved in ACS events, such as the Relay for Life which raises awareness and money, and how to start wellness programs at the workplace.

The ACS program Active for Life, as one example, is a 10-week program with individual goals and motivational teams. Information is even available on the site for how to plan healthy meals and activities for workplace meetings. Readers can learn more about cancer, and also pick up practical tips on how to assess body mass index and other health factors.
