The NYSUT Board of Directors has elected Stephen Rechner, president of the Union of Clerical, Administrative and Technical Staff, NYSUT's affiliate at New York University, to the newly created position of at-large director representing private-sector higher education.

Rechner will assume his new position at the April 26 Board meeting. He had been for several years a Board member representing School-Related Professionals.

Rechner has been an administrative assistant and activist with UCATS since 1986. He was a steward for 10 years, and president for the last four years.

"My experiences organizing and negotiating for workers once considered 'unorganizable' will be shared with this constituency," Rechner wrote in a candidate statement. "Adjunct locals are trail-blazing benefits for part-time workers and I will learn from their experiences."
