Get cold and wet for Special Olympics
You can raise some cold cash for Special Olympics in "polar plunges" at seven locations around the state from Long Island Sound to Ontario.
"We're planning for a big group of NYSUT activists to participate in Polar Plunge events in waterways all around New York state," said Aaron Bifaro, a NYSUT staffer who serves on the board of directors of Special Olympics New York.
The 2007-08 plunge season looks like this:
- Nov. 10 - Beaver Island State Park, Grand Island;
- Dec. 1 - Shepard Park, Lake George;
- Dec. 2 - Gateway National Park, Staten Island;
- Dec. 8 - Verona Beach State Park, Verona;
- Feb. 10 - Charlotte Beach, Lake Ontario;
- March 8 - Sharpe Reservation, Fishkill; and Bar Beach, Port Washington.
NYSUT is a statewide sponsor of Special Olympics.
Plungers can register as a team or as an individual; each individual is expected to raise a minimum of $100 to do a cannonball off the icy dock.
Online registration is recommended - see www.SpecialOlympicsNY.org.
