Math prep available on university site

A University of Missouri Web site can help students prepare for college math courses and school math competitions as well as SATs and ACTs.

Developed by a Missouri professor, mathonline.missouri.edu provides free tests students can use for practice and teachers can use for evaluation.

The site provides interactive tests in high school geometry, algebra and trigonometry, as well as placement exams in first-year calculus and college algebra.

Project offers lessons on the Adirondacks

The Adirondack Curriculum Project is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization aimed at encouraging teachers to incorporate the Adirondacks into their own curriculum.

More than 80 New York state standards-based lessons are at adkcurriculumproject.org.

All grade levels and most subjects are covered. Most of the board members are active or retired teachers.

The curriculum project also holds teacher workshops during the summer. Details are on the Web site.

Feds have details on student loans, grants

GovBenefits.gov, the official Web site of the United States government, is a one-stop source for information on more than 1,000 benefits and financial assistance programs administered by federal and state agencies.

Students and their parents can find financial benefits and loan programs at GovLoans.gov, including Perkins Student Loans, the Student Career Experience Program, PLUS Parent Loans and Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants.

The 'Freebies' column is a feature offering opportunities for you and your students. Remember that we do not screen the products for subtle or not-so-subtle plugs. Caveat educator, we say.
