Save the date: Mathematics and Literacy Institutes Feb. 2-3

 

NYSUT will host the Mathematics and Literacy Institutes on February 2-3, 2007. The Mathematics Institute will be held on Friday, February 2, and the Literacy Institute will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at the Crowne Plaza in Albany, New York. The Institutes are designed specifically for teachers in the elementary and middle grades and will focus on deepening content knowledge in mathematics and literacy. 

On Friday, Dr. Robert Gyles, CUNY Hunter College, Mathematics Center for Teaching and Learning, will focus on making mathematics meaningful.  On Saturday, Dr. Judith A. Langer, Distinguished Professor, Director for the Center of English Learning and Achievement (CELA) will share her research on what elements of curriculum, instruction and assessment are essential to developing high literacy and how schools can best help students achieve success
 
The registration fee is $125.00 per Institute, which includes the cost of the pre-institute activity, materials, and a follow-up activity for registrants to the Mathematics and Literacy Institutes.
