RA 2008 news briefs: First-time delegates and alternates get oriented

Get oriented

First-time delegates and alternates should plan to attend an orientation at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in Sutton Parlor Center at the Hilton New York.

Robert Carillo, NYSUT special project coordinator, will review the ins and outs of the RA procedures to help make the convention more valuable. NYSUT officers will also be available to answer questions.

Leave the light on

While the work of the convention takes place at the Hilton, to house a convention as large as the NYSUT RA, delegates, alternates, visitors, staff and guests will occupy two hotels in the Big Apple.

Delegates are strongly advised to use their hotel phone number as an emergency contact number. Hotel phone numbers are:

  • Hilton 212-586-7000
  • Sheraton 212-581-1000

Journalism event date changes

The Journalism Awards and Editors Roundtable event, originally scheduled for Saturday, April 12 at the RA, has been moved to 3 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in the Beekman Parlor.

The cocktail reception is free for local presidents and award-winning editors, authors and Webmasters; these people are asked to make a reservation at the RA site on http://www.nysut.org/. Due to limited space, there will be a $25 charge for other guests, by advance registration at the Web site. You can pay by credit card or check.

Important convention info

Your RA identification cards are in this mailing. You must bring these cards with you to exchange for your RA credentials. If your cards are not included or have an error, call (800) 342-9810, ext. 6226, immediately. Local presidents and members of the NYSUT Board of Directors also need these cards when registering for the pre-RA Local and Retiree Council Presidents Conference.

By now you should have received your hotel information and confirmation number from NYSUT or your hotel. If there are any errors or you need to make changes, contact your hotel directly.

Registration and election information

This is an election year. In order to be eligible to vote, you must be a registered delegate present at your assigned Election District voting location at 8:30 a.m. Friday, April 11. If you are not at your assigned location by 8:45 a.m., you will not be able to vote. Instructions on voting, distribution of ballots and voting will begin promptly at 8:45 a.m.
