The invitation-only NYSUT Journalism Awards reception is 3 to 5 p.m. in the Beekman Parlor. The ceremony is free for award-winning local presidents, editors, authors and Webmasters. Onsite registration is available for guests, space permitting.

General Session No. 1, 7:30 - 9 p.m. Speakers include: U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer; Ed McElroy, president of the American Federation of Teachers; and Denis Hughes, president of the New York State AFL-CIO.

RA nuts and bolts

If you're relatively new to the convention, plan to attend a new-delegate orientation at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in Sutton Parlor Center. The mechanics of the RA will be reviewed, and NYSUT staffers and RA veterans will be on hand to answer questions.
