'First, Let's Fire All the Teachers'

Diane Ravitch, a nationally-known education professor at New York University, gets to the heart of the matter in a compelling column written about the mass firing of educators at the Central Falls High School in Rhode Island.

She says that while the "mean and punitive" strategy of firing the teachers may satisfy the "urge to purge," it opens up a host of new problems and does nothing at all for the students.
