NYSUT officers, leaders support Sen. Bruno

Albany, N.Y. December 22, 2006 - The president and executive vice president of the 575,000-member New York State United Teachers, along with the president of its largest local, the United Federation of Teachers, today issued the following statements of support for Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno:

"NYSUT and its 575,000 members stand with Senator Bruno just as he has always stood with us. He has been a true friend to our schools and our students. He finds answers, and he makes sure those answers get implemented. Senator Bruno is a straight shooter, and that's a rare breed in government. We look forward to working with him for many more years as we push to improve our schools, colleges and health care facilities." - Richard C. Iannuzzi, president, NYSUT

"Everyone and anyone who has ever dealt with Joe Bruno knows that when he speaks, his word is his bond. Senator Bruno is always up front and above board; his promises are never broken. He's been a fighter for New York and for New Yorkers, especially our students. He 's a great leader and a great New Yorker." - Alan B. Lubin, executive vice president, NYSUT

"When you deal with the legislature, you can't always get what you want, but you always want to know where you stand. With Joe Bruno, there's never any doubt. His integrity and sense of purpose have helped make New York a better place to live. Senator Bruno has been and will continue to be the kind of leader New York needs." - Randi Weingarten, president, UFT
