The New York State Department of Education has announced two excellent K-12 service learning professional development opportunities that are being conducted by the Kids Consortium of Maine, a service learning organization that conducts workshops throughout the Northeast , in collaboration with the Capital Region Service Learning Network, Massachusetts DOE Learn and Serve America Program, NYC Service Learning Regional Network and Youth Service Opportunities Program(YSOP).

The Summer Service-Learning Institute will be held July 20 - 23, in Albany, NY. The goal of the Institute is to have educators come away with an understanding of the steps in the KIDS service-learning model and a wealth of resources and strategies for designing, implementing, and assessing quality service-learning projects with young people in grades K-12. Tuition for the three-day institute is $500.00 and does not include housing.

The second professional development opportunity will be held in New York City in early April. Interested persons may register for either April 1 or April 2 for a full day of training on how to begin a service learning program.
