NYSUT Secretary-Treasurer Lee Cutler joined the Justice for Farmworkers Campaign in conjunction with the New York State Labor-Religion Coalition in a march to the State Capitol June 15 to demand the state legislature pass the Farmworkers Fair Labor Practices Act.

Activists at the rally called for the State Legislature to end the shameful legacy of exclusion that denies farmworkers the same rights as other workers, including a day of rest per week, safe and sanitary working conditions, and collective bargaining rights enjoyed by other workers.

Joining Cutler at the rally were Sheldon Silver, speaker of the state Assembly; Kerry Kennedy, founder of the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Human Rights; and several legislators.

NYSUT Solidarity Team Members and hundreds of social justice advocates from across the state turned out for the rally. This event NYSUT's commitment to social justice, which is one of its five frameworks.
