Victory for school psychologists

Source:  NYSUT News Wire

The American Psychological Association (APA) voted not to change language in its Model Licensure Act (MLA) and will continue the school psychology exemption in place for the last 40 years which allows the use of the title "school psychologist" and practice of school psychology by both doctoral and non-doctoral school psychologists. The MLA recommends to state legislatures and psychology licensing boards guidance on the training, practice and titling of psychologists.

This victory is the result of extensive advocacy work by many groups including NYSUT. Last year, NYSUT President Dick Iannuzzi formally called on the APA to continue the exemption of non-doctoral school psychologists.

Congratulations to NYSUT's school psychologists and everyone who actively supported maintaining this exemption.
