UPDATE 5/13: Sample entries and judges' comments are now available.

Congratulations are in order for the winners of the 2011 NYSUT Journalism Competition.

The annual competition includes categories for both retirees and in-service communications and writing efforts. Two special awards also are given: The Ted Bleecker "Best of the Best" Award for most outstanding publication overall, and the Solidarity Award for the entry that best informs members about how state issues affect local concerns.

This year's Best of the Best award went to Momentum of the Union of Clerical, Administrative & Technical Staff at NYU. Solidarity Awards went to The Scribe of the Amityville Teachers' Association and The Voice of the Gates-Chili Teachers Association. The top award winners will be recognized on stage at the Representative Assembly, April 7-9, in New York City.

All the winners will be recognized during the NYSUT Journalism Conference, June 4 at NYSUT headquarters in Latham. The second annual conference features workshops on writing, photography, design and other topics, opportunities for networking and the awards luncheon. Registration details will be available in April.
