MEDIA ADVISORY: Nine Arlington educators earn National Board Certification in 2013

What: A news conference held by NYSUT Vice President Maria Neira and Arlington Superintendent Brendan Lyons to meet and congratulate new 2013 National Board Certified Teachers from the Hudson Valley region.

When: Wednesday, January 29, 2014, 10:30 a.m.

Where: Arlington High School - William J. Sweeney Performance Hall, 1157 Route 55, La Grangeville, N.Y. 12540.

NYSUT Vice President Maria Neira and Arlington Superintendent Brendan Lyons will meet with a group of Hudson Valley teachers who are among the 136 recipients from New York State who earned the "gold standard" of teaching excellence - Certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Arlington leads the Hudson Valley with nine teachers earning national certification this year.

National Board Certification is the highest honor for teachers. It was created for teachers, by teachers to help them master their craft, showing they have gone above and beyond to benefit their students.

In addition to Neira and Lyons, the following will also attend:

  • Bob Maier, Arlington Teachers Association president
  • Pasquale Deli Carpini, Wappingers Congress of Teachers president
  • Deb Kardas, Poughkeepsie Public School Teachers Association president
  • Annette Romano, National Board Council of NY
  • Genevieve Debose, National Board for Professional Teaching Standards

More than two dozen newly minted NBCTs will also be available for interviews and photos.
