Statement from NYSUT President Karen E. Magee on today's state Supreme Court ruling in "New Yorkers for Students' Educational Rights v. the state of New York"
“NYSUT is extremely pleased with
today's ruling denying the state's motion to dismiss this important education-funding lawsuit born from the Campaign for Fiscal Equity case. Today's decision confirms what NYSUT has long maintained: When it comes to funding public education, New York state has not fulfilled its constitutional requirement to provide students with a "sound, basic education." NYSUT hopes that as a result of today's ruling, the Legislature, as it prepares for upcoming budget negotiations, will make good on the state's obligation to provide fair and equitable funding to New York state's public schools."
