ALBANY, N.Y. Sept. 27, 2016 — New York State United Teachers released the following statement:

“The NYSUT Board of Directors has ratified a three-year contract with the Professional Staff Association, a union representing more than 200 NYSUT employees, that provides annual compensation increases for each of three years, with additional incentives that would be realized upon successful negotiation of modifications to the staff union’s pension plan.

“The contract sets out a procedure for negotiating issues relating to the employee pension plan to ensure the plan’s health and the long-term financial stability of the organization.

“This contract reflects NYSUT’s respect for our outstanding staff, supports the continuation of NYSUT’s excellent services for members and locals and establishes a process for working together on pension issues to ensure NYSUT’s health into the future.

“NYSUT is proud to be a model employer, committed to the principle that prospective change must be done with staff, not to staff. This contract affirms our dedication to best practice in collective bargaining.”

PSA voted to ratify the agreement earlier this month. NYSUT’s three staff unions include PSA, the Communications Workers of America and the Legal Staff Association.

New York State United Teachers is a statewide union with more than 600,000 members in education, human services and health care. NYSUT is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association and the AFL-CIO.
