Jaime Escalante, the teacher who inspired the film Stand and Deliver, is the focus of NYSUT's newest Hispanic Heritage Month poster.

Escalante, who died earlier this year, brought innovative teaching methods to his math classes at Garfield High in East Los Angeles.

He "devoted his career to making sure every one of his students received a quality education," NYSUT Vice President Maria Neira said.

"He exemplifies a guiding principle NYSUT strongly believes in."

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated annually from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. The poster is printed in English and Spanish.

Members can request a free poster by e-mailing orders@nysutmail.org. Reference Project No. 514A_10, include your name and mailing address. Local presidents can request posters in bulk; quantities are limited.
