Workers’ rights under attack

Lawmakers across the country are submitting — and passing — legislation that aims to gut workers' rights, benefits, pensions and standard of living. Resistance is extensive, but this session is shaping up as one to remember in November 2012. Here's what's going on now, though the situation is constantly evolving:

Could your school close?

School privatization “parent-trigger” laws have been proposed in 14 states: Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Utah and Wisconsin.

These bills would allow parents in a community to petition to shut down their local school and replace it with a charter school or voucher program.
