LOCAL UNIONS IN ACTION

Beaver River Non-Instructional Employees' Association

When Todd Grunert, maintenance/custodial staff and president of the Beaver River Non-Instructional Employees' Association, heard about a student collecting cereal for food pantries as part of a class project, he knew his members could help. Grunert reached out to School-Related Professionals in the 74-member union and placed collection boxes in the bus garages and in high school offices. The drive collected 211 boxes of cereal. Grunert and Nicholas Wadman, the senior coordinating the project, delivered the haul to the Lewis County Food Pantry Network, where the cereal was divided among six area food pantries. "They were so grateful and so appreciative," Grunert said. "It's supporting charitable work and uniting the membership. We're discussing other options now for official charity projects."
