Chapter 10: LOTE and the Five Cs: A Reflection on Teaching World Languages

This article provides information and resources in support of foreign language study and includes outlines for lessons that engage students and touch upon the five Cs of World Readiness Standards for LOTE: communication, culture, connections, comparisons, and communities.

Linda Zusman taught French, Italian, Latin and Spanish during her more than 40-year career. She is a past president of the New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers and has served as the chair of NYSUT’s Subject Area Committee for Languages other than English since its inception. Zusman was active in many committees of the Shenendehowa Teachers Association and is currently a member of NYSUT Retiree Council 10.
