Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance with Zurich Travel Assist®

Dear NYSUT members,

The leadership of NYSUT is always aware that you, as dues-paying members, have the right to know exactly what you get for your annual dues.

In addition to the valuable benefits NYSUT provides to members, such as assistance with bargaining, grievances, legal representation associated with your job, legislative support and educational research, all NYSUT members and persons making agency fee payments to NYSUT receive accidental death and dismemberment insurance at no cost to you.

For those of you who may not be aware of this insurance benefit, let me explain.

Because you are a NYSUT member, you are automatically insured in the event of death or dismemberment due to accidental injuries, up to $1,500, at no cost. This coverage is continuous as long as your NYSUT membership or agency fee status is maintained.

I am pleased to announce that in addition to this insurance coverage, all NYSUT members now enjoy a new travel assist benefit. NYSUT recently negotiated with Zurich to provide an enhancement to the Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance coverage. It's called Zurich Travel Assist. More Americans are journeying across the country and around the globe, and travelers are often presented with unpredictable circumstances. Consider for a moment facing the challenges associated with accidents and illnesses, the frequent reports of disease outbreak, natural disasters, political unrest, or something as simple, yet frustrating, as losing personal belongings. Where can a traveler turn for assistance?

Now, NYSUT members can turn to Zurich Travel Assist, global travel assistance coverage from Zurich. Your NYSUT membership must be intact to be eligible for both the AD&D and travel assist benefits.

This travel assistance program can offer you peace of mind, when you arrive at your destination and before you leave. The program puts you in touch with a network of providers that can address the medical, legal, informational and personal assistance needs of travelers.

So if you or a covered family member traveling with you become seriously sick, need a prescription refilled, require a legal referral or lose your travel tickets when traveling 100 miles or more from home, Zurich Travel Assist can assist you.

To help ensure that you are well prepared before your trip, the program also provides access to essential information such as physician and hospital information, travel advisories, weather forecasts and immunization requirements.

This medically based travel assistance program focuses on providing positive medical outcomes to sick or injured travelers. With more than 1,600 dedicated professionals working around the clock, you have access to a network of physicians, hospitals, clinics, medical transportation companies and other emergency professionals when you need them. With a sophisticated 24-hour call center and global communications network, Zurich Travel Assist's multilingual staff of physicians, nurses, travel assistance specialists and assistance coordinators have the resources to get you the medical, legal, information or personal help you need. The travel assist benefits are numerous and comprehensive.

To mention just a few, the service provides emergency medical referrals, medical evacuation, medical and non-medical repatriation, prescription assistance, passport and visa information, lost baggage services and emergency ticket replacement.
