ALBANY, N.Y. March 28, 2007 — New York State United Teachers today applauded the governor and Legislature for reaching a conceptual agreement on a historic education budget.

"It's a good day for the children of New York state," said NYSUT President Richard C. Iannuzzi. "We applaud the willingness of Gov. Spitzer and legislative leaders — who are all passionate supporters of education — to work together in the best interests of children and public schools."

NYSUT Executive Vice President Alan B. Lubin added, "The framework of this agreement is a giant step toward ensuring excellence and equity for all students. We will be working with the governor and legislators to iron out the last details and ensure New York has a budget that meets the needs of public schools, colleges and health care institutions."
