Advisory: Troy teachers set to rally for contract at Board of Education meeting

TROY, N.Y., June 18, 2008 - Hundreds of Troy Teachers Association members will gather for a rally from 5:30 to 6:30 Wednesday night in front of the Doyle Middle School.

The rally will take place before the start of this year's final scheduled Board of Education meeting. Troy Teachers Association members are protesting the lack of a contract. Their last agreement expired June 30, 2007.

The Troy Teachers Association represents 475 teachers and teaching assistants.

NYSUT, the state’s largest union, represents more than 600,000 classroom teachers and other school employees; faculty and other professionals at the state’s community colleges, State University of New York and City University of New York, and other education and health professionals. NYSUT is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers, National Education Association and AFL-CIO.
