First Book is giving away 100 books at the RA to "Wish" locals to promote the love of literacy. "Wish" locals serve schools that have little to no book resources in their communities and submit a wish to First Book. Delegates also have the opportunity to receive 1,000 free books in exchange for signing up on www.sharemylesson.com. The website features free lesson plans, content and other resources for teachers. Learning the ropes
First-time delegates are invited to an orientation from 5 to 6 p.m. today in Sutton South to learn about the RA and why it's important to be an activist.
Patrick Lyons, assistant to the NYSUT president, explains the rules, mechanics and procedures of the convention and talks about delegates' roles and responsibilities. It's a great opportunity to meet and network with NYSUT members from across the state.
