VIDEO: Wisconsin Warning: Under Attack in the Supreme Court

Public education and our rights to organize are under attack.

As you are aware, the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear the Friedrichs vs. California Teachers' Association case. We can expect a decision between December 2015 and June 2016.

The same billionaires who are attacking our public schools are behind this lawsuit, attacking our labor rights and rights to effectively organize.

We must continue to stand together to support our public schools and our labor rights.

What's at stake is the principle of "fair share" -- that all who benefit from union representation should share fairly in the costs of the work that directly benefits them -- the higher salaries and benefits that unions negotiate, better working conditions, health and retirement benefits and so on.

It is important to remember that this is only one part of the coordinated anti-union national strategy to limit the voice of workers and undercut the ability of unions to represent the interests of members and working families.

Regardless of the outcome of the Supreme Court decision, NYSUT is committed to communicating the message that union membership has value for every worker -- now more than ever.

The union, united, will never be divided.

In solidarity,

Andrew Pallotta
NYSUT Executive Vice President
