Video: First Book's 'Stories for All' project increases diversity and promotes inclusivity

Source:  First Book

First Book's Stories for All Project helped public schools in Brooklyn receive brand-new children's books that feature diverse, inclusive characters and content.

Thanks to a partnership with New York's United Federation of teachers, kids in Brooklyn schools are reading books that provide windows into other cultures and mirrors for their own lives.

Video produced with support from C&S Wholesale Grocers Inc. Camera & editing by Mark & Amanda with Special Occasion Creative Production.

First Book developed the Stories for All Project™ as a market-driven solution to increase diverse voices and promote inclusivity in children’s books. Through the Stories for All Project™, First Book is:

  • Connecting with educators and program leaders serving underrepresented populations to better understand and meet their needs;
  • Making the best books representing diverse characters, voices and life circumstances available and affordable to the children who need these resources the most;
  • Demonstrating to the publishing industry that there is a viable and vibrant market for diverse and inclusive books; and
  • Promoting understanding and empathy through stories that can help children see and celebrate their similarities and differences.
