ALBANY, N.Y. April 12, 2018 — New York State United Teachers President Andy Pallotta released the following statement today on the signing of new protections for New York workers.

“Additional protections for public-sector unions as part of the recently adopted state budget will help ensure that we can continue our work lifting the standard of living for all New Yorkers. The new anti-Janus language, promoted by Gov. Andrew Cuomo and supported in a bi-partisan way by the Legislature, will help us continue to fight to improve our members’ lives. It honors New York’s long tradition of supporting labor as the foundation of a strong middle class, even as the wealthy elite and big corporations try to rob us of our voice and slash our wages, benefits and pensions. We’re not going to let that happen. Our work is just getting started. NYSUT will continue to work to ensure that our members have strong unions, which means their voice and their values are heard in the workplace and in the corridors of power.”

New York State United Teachers is a statewide union with more than 600,000 members in education, human services and health care. NYSUT is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association and the AFL-CIO.
