NYSUT President Melinda Person released the following statement in response to the Poughkeepsie Public School Teachers Association's recent contract victory:
"All of NYSUT is celebrating with Poughkeepsie Public School Teachers Association on their tentative new contract that will finally give them the working conditions and benefits they deserve. This agreement has been six long years in the making and demonstrates the strength and resilience of PPSTA as they fight to ensure jobs in education are enticing and sustainable careers.
This victory also shows the power of organizing both within a community and our union. It is the result of tireless hours of phone calls, picketing, door knocking and strategizing. It drew support from NYSUT members and our labor family across the state, reminding us that together we are unstoppable. Congratulations to PPSTA and everyone who supported this movement."
