Looking for ways to serve your profession?

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is recruiting pre-K-12 teachers as well as undergraduate and graduate students seeking a teaching license to participate in field tests of the revised National Board Certification process.

It is not necessary to be board-certified to participate.Four great reasons to participate:

  1. You can help shape the future of teaching and experience a sample of the process thousands of teachers have called transformative.
  2. For just 3.5 hours of your time, you will have the choice of receiving up to $50 in gift cards for either Amazon.com or Powell's Books.
  3. You might be eligible to receive up to two Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
  4. All participants will receive a letter of commendation from the NBPTS.

Health plan promotes informed choices

Teachers and health care providers will find the new New York State Youth Sexual Health Plan a helpful tool to educate youth and assist communities.

The plan addresses the HIV, STD and pregnancy prevention issues facing adolescents and young adults and promotes positive, healthy and informed choices regarding sexual health. To view the plan, visit www.health.ny.gov/community/youth/development/docs/2014_nys_youth_sexual_health_plan.pdf.

Online learning community supports public education

The GPS Network is a free, online professional learning community created and maintained by the National Education Association to connect educators, parents and stakeholders who want to collaborate, share and learn.

The site uses a discussion group format and searchable data that allow users to know what is important and to share what works. Anyone can become a member, start or join a discussion group, share resources and post questions and ideas.
