Women's Rights

  • She the People - Women of color across the country making their voices and votes matter in 2020 and beyond.
  • She Se Puede - Helping Latinas to leverage their power, not just in their own lives and families, but also within their communities — and in the voting booth.
  • The National Organization for Women (NOW) is the largest organization of feminist activists in the United States . NOW has 500,000 contributing members and 550 chapters in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
  • Feminist Majority Foundation - This is a “gateway” web site with links to a wide variety of issues crucial to the well being of women and girls.
  • National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League - NARAL Pro-Choice America is a leading national advocate for personal privacy and a woman's right to choose.
  • Women's International League for Peace and Freedom - WILPF works to create an environment of political, economic, social and psychological freedom for all members of the human community, so that true peace can be enjoyed by all.
  • National Women's History Project- NWHP's mission is to recognize and celebrate the diverse and historic accomplishments of women by providing information and educational materials and programs.
  • New York State Coalition Against Sexual Assault - NYSCASA's mission is to end all forms of sexual violence and sexual exploitation by advocating an effective response to all people affected by sexual assault.
  • Until the Violence Stops - V-Day distributes funds to grassroots, national, and international organizations and programs that work to stop violence against women and girls.
  • New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence - The New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (Coalition) is a not-for-profit membership organization whose mission is to eradicate domestic violence and to ensure the provision of effective and appropriate services to victims of domestic violence through community outreach, education, training, technical assistance and policy development.
  • Amnesty International / women's human rights - Women can be seen, and finally heard, all over the world: protesting discrimination, speaking out for their economic rights, and demanding legal protection. Amnesty International USA's Women's Human Rights Action Network works closely with women around the world and in the United States in the struggle to end discrimination and violence against women.
  • MADRE - MADRE is an international women's human rights organization that works in partnership with women's community-based groups in conflict areas worldwide.
  • National Women's Law Center - The group's mission is to protect and advance the progress of women and girls at work, in school, and in virtually every aspect of their lives.
  • Girls, Inc. - Girls Incorporated is a national nonprofit youth organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold.
  • YWCA of the USA - The YWCA is the oldest and largest multicultural women's organization in the world. The YWCA draws together members who strive to create opportunities for women's growth, leadership, and power in order to attain a common vision: peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all people.
  • Zonta International - Zonta International is a global service organization of executives in business and the professions working together, across political and social boundaries, to advance the status of women worldwide.

 Racial Justice

  • National Civil Rights Museum - Collection of U.S. civil rights artifacts, including Dr. Martin Luther King's speeches and replicas of civil rights monuments.
  • Southern Poverty Law Center - The Southern Poverty Law Center was founded in 1971 as a small civil rights law firm. Today, the Center is internationally known for its tolerance education programs, its legal victories against white supremacists and its tracking of hate groups.
  • We Shall Overcome - National register of historic places of the Civil Rights Movement. Includes clickable itinerary map of the United States .
  • Voices of Civil Rights - Personal stories, oral histories, photographs, and personal artifacts of the Civil Rights Movement in America .
  • African American Odyssey: The Civil Rights Era - Provides an overview of significant events of the Civil Rights movement.
  • Reporting Civil Rights - Features a timeline, perspectives on reporting, resources, and more. Presented by The Library of America.
  • Civil Rights Movement Veterans - Created by and for veterans of the Southern Freedom Movement of the 1960s.
  • NAACP - The primary focus of the NAACP continues to be the protection and enhancement of the civil rights of African Americans and other minorities.
  • United States Commission on Civil Rights - The United States Commission on Civil Rights (USCCR) is an independent, bipartisan, fact-finding agency of the Executive Branch, first established under the Civil Rights Act of 1957.
  • Coalition of Black Trade Unionists - The Coalition of Black Trade Unionists consists of members from seventy-seven international and national unions with forty two chapters across the country. CBTU seeks to fulfill the dream of those Black trade unionists, both living and deceased, who throughout this century have courageously and unremittingly struggled to build a national movement that would bring all our strengths and varied talents to bear in the unending effort to achieve economic, political and social justice for every American.

 LGBTQ

  • GLSEN - The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) envisions a future in which every child learns to respect and accept all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.
  • International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission - Organization whose mission is to protect and advance the human rights of all people and communities subject to discrimination or abuse on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, or HIV status. Worldwide press releases tackling issues such as lesbian rights, race and sexuality, and the Nazi persecution of gays are published to this end.

NYSUT Civil Rights Committee  

  • Amnesty International - Amnesty International plays a specific role in the international protection of human rights. Its activities focus on prisoners: seeking the release of prisoners of conscience, working for fair and prompt trials for all political prisoners and opposing the death penalty and torture of prisoners. Information on current campaigns, activities and membership are available as well as reports and publications.
  • Human Rights Watch - Organization dedicated to protecting the human rights of people around the world. Offers information on campaigns, publications and news.
  • People for the American Way - Its purpose is to meet the challenges of discord and fragmentation with an affirmation of "the American Way ." By this, we mean pluralism, individuality, freedom of thought, expression and religion, a sense of community, and tolerance and compassion for others. Known for its work fighting censorship and first amendment rights.
  • American Civil Liberties Union - The ACLU is our nation's guardian of liberty. We work daily in courts, legislatures and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States . Our job is to conserve America 's original civic values - the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
  • Restorative Justice - Restorative Justice Online is a service of Prison Fellowship International. It is a gateway site with links to this important movement for social justice worldwide.
  • Children's Defense Fund - The mission of the Children's Defense Fund is to Leave No Child Behind and to ensure every child a Healthy Start , a Head Start , a Fair Start , a Safe Start, and a Moral Start in life and successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and communities.
  • Electronic Frontier Foundation - The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) was created to defend our rights to think, speak, and share our ideas, thoughts, and needs using new technologies, such as the Internet and the World Wide Web.
  • Peace Action Education Fund - Peace Action, the merger of SANE and The Freeze, has effectively mobilized for peace and disarmament for over forty years.
