Thank you for taking part in the Virtual Vigil.

Taking time to remember, reflect and come together as a community is an important part of the healing process and critical to making a difference. You can continue to be involved and to push for change long after this vigil is over.

Here are 8 action items referenced in the vigil, with links to resources to help you get involved.

ACTION #1

Stand and be counted! Make your voice heard!

Register students, friends and family to vote. Make sure your community is counted and heard. 

Commit to complete the 2020 Census. Encourage others in your community to do the same.



ACTION #2

Please see the coalition letter supported by AFT and NEA in support of reforms on a range of policing issues.



ACTION #3

Go to the AFT and NEA websites to view lesson plans and resources on teaching about race and racism in America.



ACTION #4

Sign up to be notified when we open registration for NYSUT-sponsored training on topics centered around racial justice, runaway inequality and implicit bias.



ACTION #5

Sign on to a letter to students across the country.



ACTION #6

Make a donation to the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists to help them continue to fight for the voice of black workers within the trade union movement.



ACTION #7

Take Action at the NYSUT Member Action Center to contact legislators and fight back against economic inequality.



ACTION #8

Be involved in your community. Sign-up to volunteer to be a part of planning local actions with other NYSUT members in your region.
