The 'Freebies' column is a feature offering opportunities for you and your students. Remember that we do not screen the products for subtle or not-so-subtle plugs. Caveat educator, we say.

Two events honoring teachers worldwide

The Association for Childhood Education International encourages communities to honor the professionalism and dedication of their teachers.

ACEI is preparing for its annual Week of the Classroom Teacher Sept. 30-Oct. 6 and UNESCO's World Teachers Day, Oct. 5.

Log on to www.acei.org/wcthp.htm or call toll-free (800) 423-3563 for free sample materials, including a planning guide, press releases, letters to your principal or superintendent and a parent flier.

It's all happenin' at the zoo

The Wildlife Conservation Society will be holding its third Teens for Planet Earth Leadership Institute Oct.18-20 at the Bronx Zoo.

A $100 registration fee will be waived if registration is received by Sept. 17.

The institute will train teachers and others to provide teens with the skills to carry out meaningful conservation-based projects in their communities.

Topics include the challenges of team dynamics, how to network with experts and legislators and how to motivate teens by using zoos and other living institutions.
